About FULGA Nigeria

Full Gospel Assembly (aka FULGA) will continue to be a great, glorious and global church where nations will flow into and receive salvation, succor and favour (Isaiah 2:1-3). The founding story is not only astonishing but also exciting and worth celebrating the Most High, over our affairs. He is our ever able, capable and faithful God.

In the early hours of April, 1932, a new dawn came in the family of Asuquo Ekerette in Ibiaku Ikot Ukpong, Ibiono Ibom LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A son was born named Etim as his native name later christened Donald, as his baptismal name in the Roman Catholic church. Though the father was a church-goer, he was a chieftain in the idolaters circle. Even though the child grew up in that idol-worshipping environment, his spirit and system rejected idolatry in its entirety. Other children of the family may eat meats sacrificed to idol. But any day it was mistakenly given to Donald, he will fall sick and would vomit everything.

One day, the young Donald shocked his father and neighbours when he pointed to the bag that contained roots and herbs his father used for curing /healing purposes and said "I will do the work of healing when I grow up but my own bag of healing apparatus will come from Heaven and that one will contain only one root which will have greater power and effectiveness". He was unknowingly talking about Jesus – "the root of David". Rev. 22:16 says: "I, Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star". Right from then his life was a genuine testimony of hatred for idolatry and his stardom began to evolve as he shone bright in life and brilliant in his endeavours. He became a Youth Leader in the church (Catholic) and in the community; a prize winner in his school and a favourite child in the family.

Then Donald fell seriously ill. His father did every fetish thing he could to make him recover from illness. But to no avail, finally, he was taken to Full Gospel Mission Mbak Itam 2 in Itu L.G.A for divine healing. His father, Asuquo Ekerette was told that the only remedy was for him to burn his idols and the paraphernalia of fetish worship. The man agreed, repented and burnt all the items of idolatry. Then Donald recovered and the father was reconciled to God. In the course of prayers for his healing, One night Donald, himself, had a dream in which he saw himself in the midst of evil perpetrators who cut all his body parts and put into three-legged ceramic pot ready for cooking. After cooking for a long time the water in the pot remained cold to the amazement of the evil doers. At that point Donald saw two angels descended from Heaven with a censor-like big basket and ordered two of the crowd of the witches to stop, while the rest escaped. The witches were forced by the angels to empty Donald's body parts into the basket and they did. Then the angels fixed back Donald's pieces of body parts and Donald became whole. He woke up and told the dream to the Pastor that signified his total healing and victory.

On 3rd March,1960, his wife, Patricia who was taking care of him in the Church had a dream. In the dream, a man with his twelve followers introduced himself to her as Jesus Christ and told her to inform Pastor Okon Etim, the Pastor of the Church to release her husband, Donald back home to start God's ministry assignment for which he was created for. In that same night, his father, Asuquo Ekerette had the same dream with the same instruction for his son Donald. Pastor Okon Etim, on hearing the revelation, promptly released Donald. Donald obeyed, though not fully recovered, went back to Ibiaku Ikot Ukpong and was conducting Prayer Fellowship in his parlour.

On a certain day, several villagers came to Ikot Ukpong for a communal palm fruit harvesting festival, being a rural setting then. In the midst of that a boy named Augustine Edem Udongo was sick and died. As the parents were carrying the boy for burial, Donald's neighbour named John Umossoh told them to take the dead boy for prayers at Donald's Prayer Fellowship. The man said it mockingly. As God would have it, Donald took the dead boy and prevailed in prayer for 24 hours and God's glory was revealed. The boy came back to life and he handed over the boy alive back to the boy's parents.

Initially, there were five members in the fellowship but before long the membership grew rapidly as the news of the miracle spread. Attendance grew from the parlour to the veranda. Since then Donald devoted his life and time to persistently pray 4 times a day: morning, noon, evening and midnight (Psalm 55:17; 119:62); speaking to God and using his life time to affect his generation and bless the nations. As time went on, his zeal to pray increasingly and unceasingly (I Thess. 5:17) began to be challenged by the pangs of hunger and poverty. The resources from the sick and afflicted that did come for prayers could not sustain him, his family and others around him.

Donald decided to launch back into his palm produce trade. One evening, as he had packed his bag and baggages in readiness for a business trip to Lagos the following morning, there was a heavy down pour of rain. God sent one Chief Solomon Ibanga of Mbiakpan Iko Edim (next village to Ikot Ukpong), under that heavy rain without an umbrella and the man was not soaked, to come and tell Donald not to go anywhere but continue in prayers at Ikot Ukpong. Donald carried umbrella to see off the man, the man insisted to go back in the open rain and was still not soaked. These and other signs and miracles strengthen Donald's faith to accept the call.

On 1st July – 10th August, 1965, Donald received Heaven's mandate to fast for 40 days and 40 nights for power and authority to establish his call and the commission for the church. On the 21st day of the 40-day-fasting, God inscribed the name: FULL GOSPEL ASSEMBLY, on the sky for Papa in a dream. On the 38th day, Papa gave up the ghost and as he returned to life he testified that God had given him and the Church power over pre-mature death and any act of wickedness. Also, he testified that he saw himself climbing a perpendicular wall that led to the throne of God in Heaven where he saw the Lord Jesus Christ seated on His throne. Then he was made to sign agreement that the glory of this Church (FULGA) will belong to Jesus Christ. As he returned, he was shocked to see a crowd of sympathizers who said he had died then pleaded with him to stop the fast on that day. But Papa insisted that he must complete 40 days as earlier directed by Jesus Christ. The breaking of the fast 0n 10th August, 1965 was therefore celebrated as marking the formal commissioning of FULGA by the Heavenly authorities and Christians all over the world.

Several people from all walks of life, diverse tongues and tribes, both the blacks and whites came to identify with the commission and adore and glorify God in a grand celebration. This has become an annual event marking the anniversary of the Church till Jesus returns.
